Once featured on the covers of Fortune and Forbes, Sam Bankman-Fried was, at his peak, ranked as the 41st-richest American on the Forbes 400, with a net worth reaching billions. Yet, in a swift and dramatic turn, his fortune plummeted to zero. Today, he is a convicted criminal, serving a 25-year prison sentence.

Bankman-Fried was also a prominent advocate of the effective altruism (EA) movement. He publicly embraced EA’s philosophy, which emphasizes using evidence and reason to maximize positive impact on the world. He often claimed that his primary motivation for building his crypto empire was to accumulate as much wealth as possible—to fund and support meaningful causes.
