Shen Sha Stars In BaZi

Shen Sha method is well written in the old classical text of SAN MING TONG HUI 三命通會. Shen Sha 神煞 can be loosely translated to God Destruction method or some calls it God Killing which for me is errorneous. Personally I would like to call it Gods and Evil Spirit method.

Let’s kick start with the favourable ones.

Tian Yi Gui Ren 天乙貴人

One of the best God is the Heavenly Nobleman or the Tian Yi Gui Ren 天乙貴人 that this star that can resolve many bad things. So how do we use this table?

For example, if you are a Jia 甲 day master and you have either Wei 未 or Chou 丑 inside your BaZi then you are said to have this Star of Heavenly Nobleman. Similary, for a Yi 乙 day master, having a Shen 申 or Zi 子 is said to be having this Star too and it goes on.

People with HN will be bless with nobleman to guide them or open opportunities for them.

Wen Chang Nobleman Star

Next best is the 文昌貴人 Wen Chang Nobleman or the Literacy Nobleman. This type of God brings intelligence, knowledgeable or great talents。

A Ji 己 day master having You 酉 some where in their BaZi for example.Coincidently, I have a client and she is a PhD student is a Ji day master with a year of You 酉 the chicken.

Heavenly Fortune Star

干祿 Gan Lu or the Stem Fortune or Heavenly Fortune that signifies a stable growth of prosperity and having a strong foundation for protection of wealth.

Any Wu 戊 day master made a fortune in 2025 of the Snake 巳 year?

Goat Blade or Yang Blade 羊刃

The negative one would be the Goat Blade or Yang Blade 羊刃.

淵海子平 Yuan Hai Zi Ping classics particulary warns us of Yang Blade as it brings injury due to overly aggressive or rebellious nature of Yang Blade.

This type of negative evil is only meant for Yang day masters for some reason. Perhaps it is meant to say that Yang day master should not be overly brave or else they become reckless. A Ren 壬 day master having a Zi 子 rat will mean having Goat Blade.

I do have a client having this but I dont see him as being very brave nor reckless. But again in standard BaZi concept it rat would mean a Rob Wealth! 劫财

紅艷煞 or Red Beauty Star

紅艷煞 or Red Beauty Star represents romance encounters that could lead to problems or lustful but in modern context can also mean good attraction to the opposite sex. It can also mean people who likes to visit red zones. People having this Evil can also behave with a cold and emotional nature.

This would mean a Bing 丙 day master having a Yin 寅 or tiger in the Bazi. Anyone of you ?

My Take

While I am not a fan of Shen Sha method, this method is however popular among folks especially during Chinese New Year period where many practitioners will entertain their audience with this method because it is simple and had good entertainment factors.

Some practitioners will also add this layer into their BaZi consultation. It burdens the student trying hard to understand the truth in Astrology system when they have to wade through so many layers of information and trying to figure out what is right and wrong.

Thus you will see many of these hanging around forums waiting for freeloaders to ask questions and they will test out on them the various theories as an exchange.

Distorted Nature’s Way

Recently a student shared with me about some postings on forums and asked me if this is Nature’s Way of BaZi.

On a quick look, it seems so because it talks about how the Nature behaves but on closer examination, this is not consistent with our way of teaching.

History Of BaZi

Bazi has come a long way as early as 2003 when it was heavily promoted by a young chap. Back then it was the Strong Weak Day Master system. This system was very popular in Taiwan and Hong Kong back even before Bazi was popular here in Malaysia. It is also popularly known as Zi Ping system of Bazi.

Then some years passed by, this system seems to loss its favour among Bazi enthusiast and even some practitioners here. Along the same time, due to competition among Astrologers, the Blind-man sect came into the limelight here especially in Malaysia and Singapore. Blind-man was also very famous in Hong Kong back in the 70’s and 80’s.

I still remember they were heavily promoted in this famous forum called fivearts.net. If you know this place then you must followed the metaphysics world for quite a while. Then there were this Imperial Bazi school in Kuala Lumpur, it didn’t get famous but they claimed their knowledge came from the imperial astrologers. I still remember one of their clients came to see me when one of their key master “retired” out of the industry.

Nature’s Way Of BaZi

Useful God 用神

What is the definition of Useful God (UG) in the study of Bazi?

Useful God is the most important element in a Bazi or to the destiny. It is the element that makes the Day Master most useful. There are few categories of Useful God and each have their inherent role in the chart but still collectively they are referred to as Useful God or in short UG because they makes the chart good or as in a high quality chart.

A high quality chart will have a UG and this translate to a person having the capability to rise to the top or make it big in life. A bad Bazi chart will usually not have UG and thus it translate to a medium achieving person. Then worse still one has Annoying or Offending God or Ji Shen in the chart or luck, you can imagine how bad things can go.

So from here you can deduce that since it is the most important element in a chart, it must be protected at all times just like how you will protect your dearest or assets.

Happiness God 喜神

While some schools call it favourable god, I would call it the Happiness God because this is also the secondary UG. Its role is to makes the chart “happy” and that would translate to happy events coming in real life.

Having Happiness God in one’s chart is also a positive thing and will raise the gradation of the chart.

Harms – A BaZi Antithesis

In BaZi study you probably hear of Clash 冲, Combinations 合, Punishment 刑 , Destruction 破 and Harms 害.

Harm is thought to bring about betrayal in our Destiny or meeting some kind of difficult situation or some kind events that can break you down mentally or physically. Some other teachers says Harm means many unfavorable things that can happen. Another says it brings about fear, doubts, worries or distrust. In short it is a BAD thing to have.

So in Bazi which pairing is considered a Harm relation?

  1. 寅 – 巳 Tiger – Snake
  2. 卯 – 辰 Rabbit – Dragon
  3. 子 – 未 Rat – Goat
  4. 丑 – 午 Ox – Horse
  5. 酉 – 戌 Rooster – Dog
  6. 申 – 亥 Monkey – Pig

This theory further cloud the art of BaZi reading because it has 2 opposite effect to the Bazi.

  • Lionel Messi has a Harm combo
  • Jack ma too has a Harm in his bazi
  • Muammar Gaddafi has a Harm in his Bazi.

Hour Of Birth In BaZi

BaZi astrology is an art of deciphering our destiny based on the Year, Month, Day and Time of birth. However, the time or hour of birth is always the most controversial for many reasons. One of the more prominent controversy often debated among Bazi practitioners is the question of “What is the correct Hour to use for deriving our Destiny Chart.?”

Assuming a person is born at 08:25 morning or in Bazi jargon the Chen 辰 or Dragon hour, not all masters will agree to using Chen as the correct hour. Some masters will “re-calibrate” the hour in accordance to their school of thought. This leads to the constant debate among various schools of Bazi Astrology 八字 in Chinese Metaphysics study.

Hour of birth has many possible impact on a person’s destiny ranging from children, career, marriage life, old age etc. Sometimes in a person’s destiny it is the hour of birth that saved the destiny elevating it from a poor grade to a high grade chart.

A local famous Chinese metaphysics master got his fame and wealth from his hour of birth. Feeling apprehensive about this, he now disseminate information that his hour of birth is not the one on the internet but rather it is a different hour. Thus hour of birth is a very important part of a Destiny Analysis.

Here is a BaZi chart of a young man named PJ. Many students of BaZi will it difficult to start reading a BaZi. Why?

After all the books and study, the big questions now is how do we apply into reading? This is always the most frustrating part of Bazi reading and also the reason why many gave up reading. “Better to pay someone to read and later I can ask some technical questions” is usually at the back of their mind.

Well it doesn’t work this way because there are many schools of Bazi Astrology, my dear! You may end up more confused.

HOUR   DAY   MONTH   YEAR

–              丁           乙.            甲

–              未.          亥.            子

The, a little more senior would first try to read the Ding 丁 Fire Day Master, try to figure out if he is strong or a weak Day Master. Then they will probably see, if the Day Master is strong, then his favourable elements will be Output (Eating God or Hurting Officer) and Wealth (Direct or Indirect Wealth). If the Day master is classified as Weak or called a Weak Day Master, then the favourable element will be Resource or Parallel (Friends or Rob Wealth). Officer will somehow be dependent if it is to be classified as favourable or otherwise.

One of the highest paid footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo lead Portugal to win Europe cup 2016 and bring the cup back to Portugal after 43 years! He even acted as “manager” of the team to inspire his team mates to win the cup while on the bench.

Is Output An Indicator of Talent?

This chart no doubt is a Strong Yi 乙 Day Master which ever theory you may subscribe to. According to common knowledge, a Strong Day Master’s favourable element is Output (Fire) and Wealth (Earth). He has very little fire and yet extremely talented! Can the small fire of Bing 丙 make the huge difference?

Is Having Many Wealth Element Alone, An Indicator Of Richness?

Ok yes he has plenty of wealth but same time he has plenty of Friends and Rob Wealth (Wood) stars and Resource (Water) ! This makes BaZi seemingly confusing and hard, isn’t it? Well it is not if you know the Correct way of understanding a person’s destiny.
